City Contacted by Texas Department of State Health Services Regarding Bird Flu in the Panhandle

The City received a phone call from DSHS regarding a bird flu outbreak in the Panhandle. The bird flu has been brought in by migratory birds and is contagious to humans, dogs, cattle, and is deadly to cats. People exposed to the flu can possibly develope severe conjunctivitis similar to pink eye but much worse. Hunters should use extreme caution when handling birds. The follow up email is below. PLEASE follow their guidelines if you come across any sick birds or animals.
